Nursery School

First Church Nursery School

In between Sunday services, the voices and laughter of toddlers and preschoolers fill First Church with excitement and energy. The FCNS program consists of three classrooms divided by age and teaches children ages 2 to 5 from the surrounding communities. FCNS is a ministry of First Church in Swampscott; however, children from all faith backgrounds are welcome!

Philosophy

The driving philosophy of the school is an understanding that young children learn best by doing: play is the “work” of children. As they interact with classroom materials, nature, other children and adults, they begin to make sense of their world and build confidence in their abilities.

Curriculum

FCNS seeks to help children become enthusiastic learners. Through hands-on learning centers and open-ended activities, we encourage children to be active and creative explorers as well as independent, self-confident, and inquisitive. A strong emphasis is placed on introducing children to quality children’s literature and encouraging a love of reading.

Environment

We provide a quality education in a nurturing, loving and caring environment for the children of our New England community. Life values are taught through example and gentle encouragement.

Faculty

Teachers are carefully chosen for their experience working with young children and for the unique talents they can bring to the program. Our teachers are certified by the Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care. All have teaching experience and current First Aid and CPR certification. Faculty participates in at least 12 hours of additional training each year.
